LAPID

The digital image processing laboratory of the National University develops methods and algorithms for digital image processing using mathematical models inspired by the human computer vision system and artificial intelligence, offering image storage, manipulation and analysis services through a PACs system (Picture archiving and communication system (PACS)) for its acronym in English, freely accessible and for research purposes, as well as offering a space for undergraduate and graduate students to develop their final graduation projects in the area of artificial intelligence. The knowledge acquired and constant research have allowed different researchers to publish their work, make alliances and train in image processing and artificial intelligence applications.

The digital image processing laboratory arises from the products of the Investigation registered in the SIA 0511116 Academic Information System of the National University in charge of the MSc researcher. Johnny Villalobos Murillo.

Vision

The Digital Image Processing laboratory will help train professionals who generate knowledge, promoting research with a humanistic, social and ecological sense.

Mision

Train human resources in Digital Image Processing with the necessary skills in research, teaching with humanistic training and committed to the country.

General objective

Maintain a research laboratory at the School of Informatics that develops methods and algorithms for digital image processing using mathematical models inspired by the properties and characteristics of the computer vision system and artificial intelligence, to contribute to the development of Costa Rican society as well as to the education and training of professionals.

Specific objectives

  1. Maintain a database of medical images, implemented through an image storage and manipulation system, which allows national and international researchers to use it for their various investigations in the fields of health, computer vision and artificial intelligence.
  2. Develop methods, algorithms and models of digital image processing, with the participation of researchers and undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate students who can update the image manipulation and analysis system and serve as final graduation projects or supervised professional practice .
  3. Contribute to the development of Costa Rican society and to the education and training of professionals in the fields of computer vision and artificial intelligence.
